BACKGROUND

To become one of the developed nations requires the contribution of well-trained highly skilled manpower and the application of current-day technologies for achieving competitive edge in the global market place. The Government of Bangladesh is putting great emphasis on capacity building in terms of policy formulation, developmental planning, technology assessment, insertion and integration, well trained skilled-manpower and adequate supply of skilled manpower in all industrial sectors and meeting global demand and competitiveness. In fact, recent statistics show that the country’s export earnings growth has increased very significantly, particularly in ready-made garments, jute, textiles and frozen food sectors. Upward trends are also being observed in other sectors like leather, pharmaceuticals and ceramics. Perhaps, the statistics could be much more impressive if uninterrupted supply of power and energy (pre-requisites for healthy development of an economy) could be ensured. This would include the national development programs, satisfying the critical sustainability requirements.

OBJECTIVE

With a view to developing a highly knowledgeable, skilled and competent manpower which is needed for the productive sectors of Bangladesh in the context of the present days of globalization, BIRD has developed a long term scheme as a part of which, this week-long program on Supply Chain Management, Integrated Energy and Power Systems, Climate Change and Global Green Economy has been organized. SSDI has a long and varied experience in international environment and their active association with the program will bring out various issues related to global trade, global warming, carbon trade, energy security, green economy, etc. in the light of a developing economy like Bangladesh. It is expected that the participation of the executives and the leaders of the relevant productive sectors in the week long program would enable them to contribute towards achieving the objectives of their organizations which in turn, would contribute to business growth and profitability.
